Private Art Advisory

Jeremy Petty advises private collectors on the acquisition of art and design.

JSP Art Advisory advises collectors across contemporary and historical art, with particular depth in postwar American abstraction, hard-edge and geometric painting, and the underrepresented figures of the Black Arts Movement and West Coast modernism. The practice extends across painting, works on paper, and sculpture, and into the broader field of objects where artistic vision and design thinking converge — 20th century modernist furniture and design, encompassing ceramics, craft, lighting, and objects, alongside the landmark production pieces that defined the postwar period.

The Practice

Curatorial conviction. Market foresight.

Since co-founding NOHO Modern Gallery in Los Angeles, and through more than two decades of work as a gallerist and independent advisor, Petty has built his practice at the intersection of serious painting and important design — acquiring, placing, and building context around works that the broader market had not yet caught up with.

That accumulated experience established the research foundation and collector relationships that now shape every recommendation JSP brings to its clients.

How We Work

How we work.

Every advisory relationship begins with a serious conversation — about what you already own, what draws you, and where you want the collection to go. That conversation never really ends. Context shapes every recommendation we make: historical, biographical, cultural. Market data informs our thinking, but it does not drive it. Our track record is built on identifying artists and objects whose significance has not yet been fully reflected in market or institutional recognition, and acting with patience and precision. Negotiation, due diligence, provenance research, documentation, logistics — we manage the full process, so that your relationship with the work remains what it should be.
